Sujata’s father was principal of the school from where she started her formal education. Her father was involved in arts, literature, music and social work. Inspired from her father, she also used to participate in different cultural programmes. She was encouraged by her teachers and colleagues. While participating in different programmes, she developed an interest in music. She became keen on joining and working in the music industry. Since childhood, she flowed with the beats of music as she was destined to be a successful singer.

After completion of her schooling, she started stage performances. In 2069, she recorded her first song titled ‘Katama Jane’ a Tamang shelo beat in her father’s music direction. She takes her father as her first music teacher and has learnt it takes dedication and hard work to succeed in any field. After publishing her first song, she realized the need of more practice for perfection. Then she joined Kalanidhi Indira Sangeet Mahabidhyalaya and started formal education with musician Dhan Bahadur Gopali.

Sujata recorded songs in between her formal education. She published her first album titled ‘Chhamchham Pauju’ in 2071. The album contained three teej songs. Her songs were appreciated by the critics and the album was a commercial success too. Instead of riding on the success, she got busy to improve her weakness. She was all ears for the responses and advices. Then in 2072, she released her second album ‘Kakakul’. The album contained seven songs including her very first recorded song ‘Katama Jane’. She proved her versatility from the second album.

With success comes responsibility, responsibility to do better and Sujata was no different. After taking three years formal education from Kalanidhi Indira Sangeet Mahabidhyalaya, she continued learning music from other teachers namely Chandi Prasad Kafle, Manoj Raj Shiwakoti, Dipak Raman, Sagar Adhikari. She knew perfection can only be reached through continuous dedication.

Sujata started playback singing in 2073. In the movie Surya: The Power, she sang in Narhari Premi’s music. Sujata has lent her voice in more than three dozen songs. She believes in quality more than quantity. She has already worked in lyrics and composition of renowned lyricist and composer. She has paved her way to success in short span of time and has become one of the most searched and appreciated singer in digital market.

She has already sung Modern songs, Pop songs, Lok Pop songs, National songs, Folk songs, Film songs, Religious songs and many others. Her popular songs include ‘Baja Bajaudai’, ‘Oe Kanchhi’, ‘Mero yad Aachha?’ ‘Rat Rati Phone Garni’, ‘Kura Sidha Chha’, ‘Pan Mitho Chunale’, ‘Batas Bani Chhuna’, ‘Mero Boli Sunda’, ‘Jal Bunyo’ and many. She transitioned into a playback singer in films ‘Surya: The Power’, ‘Timro Hune Kahile’ and others.

Her hardships have paid well as she has won many National awards and felicitations. She has won ‘National Box Office Music Video Award 2019’, ‘Audhogik Shanti Nepal Music Award 2076’, ‘Chhayachhabi Teej Music Award 2077’, ‘Nepal Art, Culture and Music Award 2077’, ‘Nepal Music and Fashion Award 2077’, ‘NIM Award 2021’, ‘PIM Nepal Film Festival 2021’, ‘Bishesh Nagarik Puraskar 2079’ in singer category.

She has been felicitated by ‘Nepal Africa Film Festival 2022’, ‘Blockbuster Nepali Film Award 2077’, ‘National Box Office Filmfare Award 2077’ and ‘Fulara Literature Foundation’. Because of her dedication, understanding and presentation, she has also quite well handled the responsibility of a judge in various awards and competitions.

She is actively involved in social work and is associated with different organizations. She believes in the upliftment of the music industry on a whole and is associate secretary of ‘Rastriya Sangitkarmi Sangh Nepal’, Lalitpur branch, member of ‘Prastota Samaj Nepal’ and lifetime member of ‘Bindabasini Foundation’, ‘Nepal Sangitik Sangh’ and ‘Bishwa Kalakar Mahasangh’.

Lately busy in festivals and concerts, Sujata KC is one of the popular singers and is on top of her game.
