Mohan has had a passion for the arts since childhood. While studying at Paropkar High School in Bhimsensthan, Kathmandu, he actively participated in various cultural programs, particularly excelling in drama performances.
As time passed, Mohan had to take on family responsibilities, leading him to manage his father and Uncle’s construction business. Although he temporarily set aside his artistic aspirations, his love for the arts and culture never faded. He constantly sought ways to connect with the film industry.
In 2009, his friend Gajendra Basnet introduced him to director Shovit Basnet, who was a popular filmmaker at the time. Shovit narrated a movie story to Mohan, which deeply resonated with him. As a result, he decided to invest in films and began producing Raaj. However, the production of this movie took some time. Before its release, he also produced another film, Kanyadaan. Although Kanyadaan was his second production, it became his first released film in 2010.
Mohan not only produced Kanyadaan but also showcased his acting talent, receiving immense appreciation for his acting. His passion for acting was rekindled, leading him to continue working in the industry. The release of Raaj in 2011 further cemented his reputation as both an actor and producer. In 2012, he appeared in Taa Taa Saahrai Sapris Ni Badri, which received positive reviews.
Not only did he gain recognition from his colleagues and friends, but critics also began to acknowledge his acting skills. Having honed his craft through school plays as a child, Mohan finally had the opportunity to showcase his talent in films.
Mohan is also known for his bold approach as a producer. A significant milestone in his career occurred in 2012 when two of his films, Barshaat and Full Stop, were released on the same date - a rare occurrence in Nepalese cinema history. This happened on August 31, 2012, and both films performed well at the box office.
His subsequent productions included Zanjeer (2013) and Punarjanma (2015). Punarjanma is a significant film that reflects the concept of reincarnation within Sanatan Hindu traditions. The film, set against the backdrop of Nepal’s conflict period, serves as both a cultural and religious document for followers of Sanatan Dharma.
Throughout his career, Mohan Krishna Shrestha has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to Nepalese arts and culture. With remarkable vision, creativity, and a deep passion for filmmaking, he has established himself as a leading and influential Nepali movie producer. His films feature original narratives that effectively deliver compelling stories, resonating deeply with audiences. Committed to excellence, he consistently produces high-quality movies that leave a lasting impact and contribute to the growth of Nepal’s film industry.
He brings powerful stories to life, creating an emotional connection with viewers while spreading positive energy through cinema. Through his work, he has played a vital role in promoting Nepal’s arts, culture, and cinema on the global stage, sharing its rich heritage with audiences worldwide.
Mohan has produced half a dozen feature films and acted in more than nine. Additionally, he has appeared in television serials such as Saath Sadaiko, Ekadeshko Churifuri, Thauko Thau, Chhimeki, Pyari Juneli, and Mool Ghar. His presence can also be seen in several commercials and music videos.
Beyond the film industry, Mohan has successfully led various social organizations. He is currently the Senior Vice President of the Nepal Film Society. He has been associated with the organization as Vice President since its establishment in 2013 and was promoted to Senior Vice President in 2024. His leadership extends to various social and professional organizations, including the Lions Club, the Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association, and the Nepal Taekwondo Association.
